Lady Tigers win big in Holiday Hoops Tournament

The Tenaha Lady Tigers defeated the Chapel Hill Lady Devils in a closely contested game Friday night in the Holiday Hoops Tournament hosted by Tenaha High School. This marks the first time in the 13-year history of the popular tournament that Tenaha has come away as the champion in its own tournament.

Over the past 13 years, Tenaha ISD has built a reputation for putting on one of the best small-school basketball tournaments in the state. Holiday Hoops has become an annual tradition that showcases 1A, 2A, and 3A basketball teams from all over East Texas. The Holiday Hoops Tournament always draws a crowd along with some of the best basketball teams in the state. This year was no exception.

TBGA: Drumming Up Entries

The Great Outdoors With another round of fall hunting seasons rolling to a close soon, Kara Starr and the rest of the folks at the Texas Wildlife Association in New Braunfels are sounding the bell to Texas big game hunters in hopes of drumming up a solid list of entries for the 2022-23 version of the Texas Big Game Awards Program. Starr is the coordinator for TBGA, a non-profit program run jointly by the TWA and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Bears fall short 24-21 in state semifinals

For the third consecutive year, the Timpson Bears have fallen one game shy of the state championship game. Timpson has been a force to be reckoned with in gridiron action in recent years having been named 2A Division I Region III Champion for three years running.

JISD voice of democracy

Maisyn Moore’s “Voice of Democracy” essay has won first place in the District 19 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) essay contest competition earning her a plaque and a check for $500. She has been invited to the district banquet in January to receive her awards.

Bears bury the Bulldogs

For much of the last decade, the road to the State Championship in 2A football has gone right through District 15. After defeating Cooper 34-15 last week, the Timpson Bears are ready for another trip through District 15 as they get ready to meet Refugio following the Bobcats’ elimination of Shiner.

Timpson blows past Centerville 41-14

There are only eight teams left in contention for the 2A Division I title, and the Timpson Bears are one of those teams. The Bears’ 41-14 win over the Centerville Tigers gives them the opportunity to defend their Region III Champion status against the Cooper Bulldogs this Friday night.

Joaquin ousted by Cooper 33-11

The Joaquin Rams season came to a close after a tough loss to the Cooper Bulldogs in the third round of playoff action. Joaquin made their way past Leon and Beckville on their way to the Region III Semifinals. The Rams finished the season behind the Timpson Bears giving them the runner-up position from 2A Division I District 11.
