Kadence Oliver of Chandler loves the big bite, especially when a whiskered fish with a weight problem chomps down on a hapless live perch scrambling for its life. A nasty scuffle always follows once the fish feels the sting of a 6/0 J-hook, but the young lady is always game for a good fight.

Tenaha High school hosted its annual Holiday Hoops basketball tournament Monday, Dec. 29-Wednesday, Dec. 31. Teams from 23 school districts across East Texas made the trip to Shelby County to participate in the tournament in games played in Tenaha and Timpson.

Jesse Goodwin (left) won the contest with 12 games picked correctly this week. Goodwin’s grand prize was a 65” smart TV. Second place winner was Joe Lloyd who won a $100 gift card with 11 games picked correctly and the tie breaker.

News of several whopper bucks has trickled across the outdoors desk this fall. Just when I thought the tales couldn’t get any taller, along comes word of a true East Texas giant out of Kaufman County, courtesy of Courtland Sewell of Scurry.

RAMS NOT DONE YET

The Joaquin Rams exacted some revenge last Friday, Dec. 5, when they came out on top of the San Augustine Wolves 35-24. The Rams had dropped the two teams’ regular season matchup but came into their rematch determined not to let their playoff run falter at the hands of the Wolves.
