CENTER ROUGHRIDERS Boys The Center Roughriders ended their district schedule tied for the number one seed with Tyler Chapel Hill. To declare a district champion, the two teams elected to play a tiebreaker game. Center ultimately walked away on top with a 58-54 victory.

Center Boys - The Center Roughriders completed their last week of district play with a win over Kilgore on Tuesday and a win over Carthage on Friday. Senior Marmar Evans dropped a 26-point total to lead the Riders in their victory over Kilgore.

Center High School students Nathali Abella-Hernandez and Kaylee Cox have qualified for the 2022-23 University Interscholastic League State Cross-Examination Debate Meet March 17-18 at The University of Texas at Austin.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness month

The Janelle Grum Family Crisis Center of East Texas (Women’s Shelter of East Texas, Inc.) in Lufkin is promoting awareness of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The agency is visiting area schools this month and will be at Joaquin ISD Thursday, Feb. 23 from 8:50 to 9:45 a.m.

Shelbyville outlasts Joaquin 51-45 at home

The Joaquin Rams earned an underdog victory over the Shelbyville Dragons earlier this season. In their second meeting, the Dragons were able to correct their mistakes of the past with a 5145 win at home. Shelbyville kicked off the night by honoring their two seniors, Dakota Jones and Tim Mason.
