Bears take easy victory over Beckville

In a highly anticipated game pitting the #2 and #4 ranked teams, the Timpson Bears took an easy 50-13 victory over the Beckville Bearcats in Timpson Thursday, August 25. The Bears made the victory look easy despite Timpson standout Terry Bussey sitting out the game after knee surgery earlier in the year.

Comeback victory boosts Tenaha

The Tigers of Tenaha faced adversity in their first game of the season and overcome it. After falling behind early to the West Sabine Tigers, Tenaha secured a come-frombehind victory in the fourth quarter by refusing to quit in their week one matchup. The result is an early notch in the win column for Tenaha, 21-20.

High school football regular season kicks off tonight with a matchup between number two ranked Timpson and number four ranked Beckville. Center, Joaquin, Shelbyville, and Tenaha take on their first opponents Friday night.

Football and soccer signups August 17

Football and soccer signups are underway for the Center Recreation Department programs. Thursday August 17 is the only remaining in-person signup date remaining at the Community House located at 425 San Augustine Street in Center. Signup time is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Shelbyville softball players receive state honors

Sophomores Taylor Jones and Lanie Bass, Shelbyville Lady Dragon softball players, were named to the top 50 Class 2A softball athletes by the Texas Coaches Association, and to the All District 22 team. The Lady Dragons put up an 8-4 record in District before being defeated by Como-Pickton in the state quarterfinal round.
