CHS Class of 1963 Center High School Class of 1963 will have their reunion at the old Lamar School Building on the Upper Arcadia Road Saturday, Sept. 23.

One of the world’s oldest and most hallowed freshwater fishing records has likely been crushed by a monster alligator gar caught and released recently at Sam Rayburn Reservoir by Art Weston of Union, Kentucky. The news comes courtesy of Kirk Kirkland of Trinity.

Center defeats Springhill 66-20

After setting a state mark and a school record with prolific scoring in Week 1, the Roughriders kept their right foot on the accelerator again in Week 2, piling 66 points on the Springhill Panthers. The Riders did a better job this week with their left foot on the brake, giving up 43 fewer points than they did in Week 2.

Second-half adjustment leads Bears to victory

Over the past three years, Timpson has been a tough team to catch. Their tendency to score early and often has been a blight upon opposing teams. Last Friday, things started as usual, with the Bears piling up an early lead over their opponent. Heading into the second quarter Timpson led 15-0 over the Jefferson Bulldogs.

Tenaha trounces the Wolves

The Tenaha Tigers are now 2-0 after a win over the San Augustine Wolves. Both teams entered the contest 1-0, but the Tigers were able to maintain their early undefeated record with a 35-14 victory on the road.

Dragons fall in late game shootout

The Shelbyville Dragons are now even with a 1-1 record after falling to the Hemphill Hornets. After a relatively slow start in the first half, both teams began to click offensively during the second half for both teams. As the second half progressed it became clear that whoever scored last would take the victory. Unfortunately for the Dragons, Hemphill did just that and earned a 50-45 win at home.

Joaquin burned by Beckville

Last Thursday, the Joaquin Rams traveled to Beckville for their second game of the season. Unfortunately, Joaquin’s record has fallen to 0-2 after a 60-27 loss at the hands of the Bearcats. Beckville’s season began with a 50-13 beating from the Timpson Bears the week prior. Beckville entered this matchup with a chip on their shoulder. Joaquin was unable to overcome the Bearcats’ desire to prove themselves.

Like no game before it

Friday around noon, local football fans were talking about that night’s season opener against Beckville at Roughrider Stadium. Much of the conversation centered around fears about the record August heat and the danger it might pose.

Joaquin Rams stymied by Arp Tigers

The Joaquin Rams fell short in their season opener with the Arp Tigers. After a full four-quarters of play, the Tigers took the victory 22-6. Joaquin is in what could be considered a rebuilding year following the departure of last year’s senior class.

Dragons roar to victory over Alto

The Shelbyville Dragons are 1-0 after a dominant 43-12 victory over the Alto Yellowjackets. Shelbyville hosted Alto for their season opener despite scorching hot temperatures and a pair of nearby wildfires. While the wildfires were contained by local fire departments, Shelbyville got their season off to a hot start.
