At cross country Regionals, 23 teams competed with the CHS girls finishing 13th overall and the boys finishing 5th overall. Daniel Flores finished 6th overall out of 100 runners, which qualified him for state. The CHS Roughrider Band earned Straight 1’s at the UIL Region Marching Contest — marking an incredible 15 consecutive 1st Division ratings. Next stop will be the UIL State Military Marching Contest at Baylor’s McLane Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 29th. Submitted | Light and Champion

David Clifton takes pride in his work and he’s looking to pass on the passion for turning out top-notch taxidermy to others.Clifton, 54, is a full-time taxidermist from Rusk. In mid-September, he announced he will host a series of white-tailed deer taxidermy workshops throughout the fall.

Timpson Cross Country advances to Regionals

On Oct. 8, the Timpson cross country team traveled to Marshall to compete in this year’s district meet. Many don’t know, but these athletes have put in a lot of work behind the scenes and now three have the opportunity to advance to regionals on Oct. 20-21 in Huntsville.

Texas Parks and Wildlife inland fisheries biologist Dan Ashe of Brookeland was recently named Jasper District Management Biologist over the agency’s Jasper District. Ashe has been working as interim supervisor over the district since the 2024 retirement of Todd Driscoll.

Center preps hard for Carthage joust

The Center Roughrider’s home football game this Friday is against Carthage, one of Center’s toughest opponents. For years, there has been a growing rivalry between our two schools. Bears to take on Hemphill Hornets in district opener

With preseason out of the way, the Timpson Bears are preparing to take on the Hemphill Hornets in their first district game of the season. In their game against Hooks, the Bears fell short with a score of 28-34, leaving them with a 2-3 record going into district play.

Timpson to play Hooks Hornets in home opener

With one more week until their district opener, the Timpson Bears are getting ready to take on the Hooks Hornets at home on Friday night.This past week, the Bears traveled to Grace Community High School to battle it out with the Wolfe City Wolves.
