Center’s Roughriders took on the Louisiana state powerhouse North Desoto Griffins Friday night in Stonewall. The ‘Riders came away with a narrow defeat, 52-57. A Griffin is a half-lion/half eagle from the Greek mythological past.

Local students named to SNHU President’s List

Terri Nugent of Joaquin and Adam Vigil of Shelbyville were named to the Summer 2023 President’s List. The summer terms run from May to August. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List.

Friday night football is never more exciting than when neighboring rivals meet under the lights. The Tenaha Tigers hosted the Joaquin Rams Friday, Sept. 8 for an exciting matchup that would ultimately end with a home team victory of 50-42.

The Timpson Bears have put to rest any notion that they are a one-man show. Three games into the season and five-star athlete Terry Bussey has yet to see significant time on the field. This week he suited up for a handful of plays but did not factor heavily into the game plan.

Over the past three years, Timpson has been a tough team to catch. Their tendency to score early and often has been a blight upon opposing teams. Last Friday, things started as usual, with the Bears piling up an early lead over their opponent.

Tenaha trounces the Wolves

The Tenaha Tigers are now 2-0 after a win over the San Augustine Wolves. Both teams entered the contest 1-0, but the Tigers were able to maintain their early undefeated record with a 35-14 victory on the road.

The Shelbyville Dragons are now even with a 1-1 record after falling to the Hemphill Hornets. After a relatively slow start in the first half, both teams began to click offensively during the second half for both teams.
