At the Shelby County 4H 2025 inaugural meeting earlier this month Camille Greer gave the members and prospective members a presentation about her experiences as part of the prestigious Livestock Ambassadors program, which included a trip to Japan to study the Japanese livestock industry. The 4H program is open to youth from third grade up to grade 12. Meetings are held each first Monday of the month at the Shelby County AgriLife Extension building at 266 Nacogdoches St. David Danley | Light and Champion

Booth Library receives new Spanish language books

The Fannie Brown Booth Library announces the arrival of new Spanish books for its Spanish collection. These books have been purchased with funds provided by a grant from the 2025 Texas Book Festival. The library is one of only 50 libraries in the state to receive this grant.

The 2025 early teal season opens statewide on Sept. 20. Hunters should note the season length has been shortened from 16 days to nine days due to declining numbers of blue-winged teal numbers recorded by a Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey conducted by the U.S.
