Shelbyville ISD’s 2023 Integrated Athletics began this morning at 9:00 a.m. where schools from Shelbyville, Center, Timpson and Joaquin participated in the events that included competition in several races such as a 400-meter dash, a walk race and many more Olympic activities.
“It is my honor and my privilege to be here with you today,” Shelbyville ISD’s Special Education Coordinator, Gina Jones said. “On behalf of our students and our school, I just want to say thank you to all of our volunteers, our Integrated Athletics committee for planning this event, without them, none of this would be possible.”
A prayer and the National Anthem played by the Shelbyville High School Band followed. Each participating school marched around the football field to kick off the Olympic events.
Shelby County Cookers provided food for the event.
Joaquin High School students Marshall Fry, Tristan Hendricks, Dylan Deschamplin and David Tomaszski toured the Bright Coop Plant in Nacogdoches Friday afternoon.
Joaquin High School senior, Andre Brown, placed 2nd in the 198 lb division at the State Powerlifting Meet this past Saturday in Abilene.
Halle Bonner competed at the 2023 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association State Championship (THSWPA) on Wednesday, March 15.
