The Center Noon Lions Club Danny Foster Memorial Fundraiser is underway. The local civic club’s primary funding project in which a Chevrolet Colorado pickup and cash award “runner up” prizes will be given away at the East Texas Poultry Festival in Center in October.

The week of August 20 through 26 was full of widespread wildfires in several communities throughout Shelby County. In addition to hundreds of acres of grass and woods, many homes and other structures were burned with each new wildfire that broke out.

Shelby County is currently under a BURN-BAN. This means that outdoor burning is prohibited. The County has had NO significant rain in 3 months.

Sheriff Kevin W. Windham underwent a double lung transplant surgery on Tuesday, August 22. The operation went well and he now has new lungs, according to Sheriff Windham’s wife, Brenda Windham, who has been updating the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office throughout the operation process.

Drought conditions are widespread across the state. The City of Center is experiencing severe drought conditions with no rain forecast in the near future. Stage 1 of the Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan has been triggered and must be implemented.
