The Joaquin Rams kicked off playoffs with a bi-district beat down of the Leon Cougars. Joaquin scored 61 unanswered points to earn the victory and cash their ticket to the area round of playoff action.

The game got out of hand very early. In fact, the final score of 61-0 was also the score at the half. Joaquin was able to take their foot off the gas in the second half and coast to a smooth victory as officials allowed the clock to run for the entire second half.

This week is a clash for which the Rams are itching. Beckville has been a thorn in Joaquin’s side for the past two seasons. Last year, the Bearcats defeated Joaquin to open the season and again in playoff action. Earlier this season, Joaquin failed to close the game out with a win despite having a healthy lead at one point in the game. The Bearcats stuck around and earned a 42-41 victory over the Rams.

Given recent history, there is little doubt in fan’s minds that the Rams are keyed in on earning a win over the Bearcats.

The Tenaha Tigers were eliminated from playoff contention by the Deweyville Pirates. The Tigers were unable to overcome the early lead established by the Pirates and ultimately fell 28-14. Deweyville closed out the first quarter with a 14-0 lead and that would make all the difference.

Tenaha’s season ends with a record of 5-6. The Tigers are a team to keep an eye on over the course of the next couple of seasons. Their youth is their greatest asset moving forward. A lot of young players gained invaluable experience this season, and you can expect them to return next year as dangerous competitors.

Timpson easily bests Groveton 60-3

The Timpson Bears entered playoff action and wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard. Their bi-district victory over the Groveton Indians was never in doubt with the final score resting at 60-3.

Moving forward to the area round, the Bears will now face off against the Frankston Indians. Frankston holds a very respectable 9-2 record heading into the matchup with the 11-0 Bears. Timpson will meet Frankston in Rusk at Eagle Stadium on Friday, November 18.

The Bears have watched the 2A-1 State Championship from the outside looking in for the past two years. Their back-to-back trips to the state semi-finals are nothing to sneeze at, but you can be sure that the Bears have a much larger goal on their mind for this year’s state championship finals.
