The Timpson Bears traveled to Waskom last Friday night and delivered a 6312 beating to the Wildcats. Timpson has had no problem punching above their 2A Division I weight class this year. Earlier this season they faced off against the Jefferson Bulldogs who are a 3A Division I school, and last week the Bears had a matchup with the Daingerfield Tigers who, like Waskom, are a 3A Division II school. Despite the smaller pool of studentathletes to pull from, Timpson has overcome their opponents with a deep well of talent.

Timpson’s game with Waskom marked the full return of five-star recruit Terry Bussey, who wasted little time in making his presence known. Despite only throwing four passes, Bussey ended the game with two touchdowns in the passing game. He also carried the ball for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

J.J. Garner led the team rushing with 236 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Sophomore Chris Nickelberry was another standout in the run game with four carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Amari Bruton and Vosky Howard each reeled in one pass for a touchdown.

This week, district play will kick off in earnest. Timpson faces one of the weaker threats in District 11, the Grapeland Sandies. The Sandies are 1-3 on the year with their only win taking place in the season opener with Frankston.
