The Joaquin Rams fell short in their season opener with the Arp Tigers. After a full four-quarters of play, the Tigers took the victory 22-6. Joaquin is in what could be considered a rebuilding year following the departure of last year’s senior class.

Gauge Jordan led the Rams in rushing yards mostly from the quarterback position with a few reps at running back mixed in. Justyn Brown also spent time under center. In the fourth quarter, Brown and the Rams offense found themselves in a tough spot down 22-0 and facing a fourth and goal from the 14-yard line. Brown took the snap and quickly felt pressure from the left side. Justyn moved right and saw open space. He bolted toward the goal line where he was met by a pair of Tiger defenders, but Brown’s desire to get on the scoreboard won out. Unfortunately, it was too late for Joaquin, and this would mark their only score of the night. The Rams will look toward getting things back on track this week as they face a talented Beckville Bearcats team. Beckville struggled mightily in week one against the Timpson Bears and will also be seeking their first win of the season. This week’s game with the Bearcats, originally slated for Joaquin, has been moved to Beckville because of ongoing construction on the Joaquin concession stand. The varsity game will take place on Thursday at 7:30 at Bearcat Stadium.
