Maisyn Moore’s “Voice of Democracy” essay has won first place in the District 19 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) essay contest competition earning her a plaque and a check for $500. She has been invited to the district banquet in January to receive her awards.

Maisyn’s essay, “Why is the Veteran Important,” placed first during Joaquin ISD’s Veterans Day program earning the Joaquin ISD student a medal and a check for $100. Her district honor has earned her entry in the Department of Texas VFW competition for judging at the state level against 22 other entries for the right to represent Texas at the National Level.

Sometime during December, the top ten finalists will be announced and invited to the yearly Mid-Winter State VFW Convention.
