on the field. That is the conclusion I have come to after watching Timpson dismantle the Honey Grove Warriors 68-7 in the third round of playoffs. Garner was all over the field from start to finish with six touchdowns to prove it. He also had two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for six points.

Honey Grove started the game with possession of the football. It was a short-lived possession however as Timpson forced them to punt before they could move the ball 10 yards. Terry Bussey then linked up with Colton Carroll for a 35-yard touchdown to put the Bears on the board.

Timpson made few mistakes. Early on, early on they fumbled the football two yards away from paydirt allowing Honey Grove to takeover. Just a few plays later, however, Chris Nickleberry made up for the turnover by creating one of his own in the form of a “pick six.”

Honey Grove gave up possession of the football yet again on a fumble, this one picked up by Baylor Kimbro. Bussey connected with J.J. Garner on a halfback screen play for a 17-yard touchdown.

Another Honey Grove possession; another Honey Grove fumble. Garner was able to collect the loose ball for the Bears, and Bussey finished the drive with a five-yard score putting Timpson ahead 27-0.

Garner crossed the goal line again, this time on a five-yard rush untouched into the endzone. Bussey was next with a 26-yard touchdown that occurred after the Texas A&M recruit broke four tackles.

Garner scooped and scored on a fumble recovery with no time on the clock before halftime giving Timpson the ridiculous 54-0 advantage heading into the locker room.

Timpson clearly had this one in hand, but Garner was not finished. He scored twice more. Once on a 14-yard reception and again on a massive 67-yard rushing touchdown. Honey Grove would score once in the fourth quarter against the backups for Timpson leaving the score 68-7, Bears.

By this point in the season, easy wins are hard to come by unless your team is truly special, and it is obvious to anyone paying attention that the Bears are just that. J.J. Garner is a force for the Bears. Everyone keys in on Terry Bussey, and for good reason. But successful teams are those that have a gameplan focusing on teamwork.

Timpson will now face their rival, the Garrison Bulldogs for a second time this season. After a schedule change, the two teams are set to meet on Friday at SFA’s Homer Bryce Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Timpson won this year’s Battle of the Attoyac 35-26, but a good team is hard to beat twice.

The Bears will need to focus up if they want to represent Region III for a fourth year in a row in the State Semifinals.
