CENTER

Boys — On Tuesday, January 24, The Roughriders were handed their first loss since early December. The Chapel Hill Bulldogs defeated the Riders 64-57. Center held an early district win over the Bulldogs giving the teams a split 1-1 record against one another. Timothy Johnson led the Riders with a 23-point total.

Center bounced back the following Friday with a 62-33 win over Spring Hill. Emonte Cross was the leading scorer for the Roughriders with 24 points.

Girls — Center’s girls did not fare much better against Chapel Hill. The Lady Bulldogs improved with record with a 46-39 victory.

On Friday, the Lady Roughriders faced off against the Spring Hill Lady Panthers. Center’s girls were able to outlast Spring Hill in a tight 35-31 win.

JOAQUIN

Boys — Friday, January 27, Joaquin’s boys came up short against the Timpson Bears who currently rank No. 11 in the state for 2A boys’ basketball. Girls — The Lady Rams started the week strong with a win over the Garrison Lady Bulldogs. Junior Ke’Maria Wilson led Joaquin with nine points. The Lady Rams held the Lady Bulldogs below 10 points with a final score of 36-9.

Unfortunately for Joaquin’s girls, Timpson came out victorious the following Friday with a final of 53-29.

SHELBYVILLE

Boys — Shelbyville bounced back from a three-game skid with backto- back victories the previous two Fridays. The first was a home victory over the Gary Bobcats with a final of 54-46. Sophomore DJ Barnes dropped 17 points during this matchup.

Next, the Dragons went on the road to defeat the Tenaha Tigers 71-66.

Girls — Shelbyville’s girls were able to pull off a 36-19 win over the Lady Bobcats but were stymied by the No. 4 ranked Tenaha Lady Tigers 89-26.

TENAHA

Boys — The Tenaha Tigers had mixed results last week. First, was a win Tuesday night over the Gary Bobcats in Gary. The final in this one was 67-46. Next, the Tigers dropped a game at home to the Shelbyville Dragons with a final score of 7166.

Girls — Tenaha’s girls are currently ranked No. 4 for 2A girls’ basketball. They are currently on a 19-game winning streak. Their two latest wins were over the Gary Lady Bobcats in a 66-9 thrashing and a blowout 89-26 win over the Lady Dragons of Shelbyville.

TIMPSON

Boys — Timpson’s Tuesday night game last week ended in an upset. The Beckville Bearcats, currently ranked No. 17, defeated the No. 11 Timpson Bears 50-48. This marks Timpson’s first district loss, but due to some help from the Garrison Bulldogs the week prior, the Bears maintain their status as the No. 1 seed from the district as of now.

To end the week, Timpson hosted the Joaquin Rams. The Bears played with a chip on their shoulder following the loss earlier in the week and trounced the Rams to the tune of a 102-53 victory.

Girls — The Lady Bears tallied up two victories last week. Their first was a win on the road in Beckville that resulted in a 55-41 final.

Timpson’s girls got the job done at home the following Friday with a 53-29 win over the Lady Rams.
