In a highly anticipated game pitting the #2 and #4 ranked teams, the Timpson Bears took an easy 50-13 victory over the Beckville Bearcats in Timpson Thursday, August 25.

The Bears made the victory look easy despite Timpson standout Terry Bussey sitting out the game after knee surgery earlier in the year.

Beckville’s first drive ended with a sack by J.J. Garner and Baylor Kimbro. Timpson the ball 80 yards getting the first score by Vosky Howard on a short run into the end zone. Tyler Lane’s PAT was good, and the scoreboard showed a Timpson 7-0 lead with a little over five minutes gone in the first quarter.

Beckville answered with a drive ending with a quarterback keeper from inside the 5-yard line and the visiting team made it 7-6 with under two minutes left in the first quarter when a two-point conversion failed.

Timpson’s Cameron Bennett recovered a Beckville fumble near mid-field early in the second quarter. The Bears capitalized with a long scoring drive when Garner ran for a 2-yard TD. Garner added a two more on the conversion pushing the Timpson score to a 15-6 lead.

Before the half ended, Timpson forced a Bearcat punt. The Bears took the ball to a a second down and goal at the 4 allowing Garner to score with 19 seconds before halftime. The PAT was good, and Timpson had a 22-6 halftime lead. Garner added another TD in the third quarter running the ball 41 yards making the score 29-6 with the PAT just under midway of the third quarter. On a roll, Garner scored again with longest touchdown run of the night, 60-yard run with 7:25 left in the third quarter. Lane added the PAT and Timpson led 36-6.

Not done yet, Garner connected with Amare Bruton for a 35-yard touchdown reception with under five minutes in the third quarter remaining, pushing the Bear’s lead to 43-6 Lane’s point after.

Beckville scored with 10:45 left in the game making the score 43-13, Timpson. The Bears added a 3-yard touchdown run by Chris Nickleberry with five minutes left and Lane one more PAT lighting up the scoreboard at 50-13 which would be the final score.

Total yards in the game showed Timpson 411 to Beckville’s 282. Passing yards, Timpson 151 to Beckville’s 134. Rushing yards, Timpson 260 to Beckville’s 148. Third down conversions, Timpson was 3 for 10 to Beckville’s 1 for 9. Timpson had two turnovers to Beckville’s three: fumbles Timpson 1 and Beckville 2, and interceptions, one each for both teams.

Timpson takes their 1-0 start to Jefferson Friday, Sept. 1 to take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
