Shelbyville

The Shelbyville Dragons’ season has concluded following a 46-39 loss to the Hawkins Hawks in the area round of playoffs. Shelbyville performed well this year, finishing the season with a solid 22-10 record. The Dragons battled it out in one of the toughest 2A districts in the state and entered playoffs as the three seed. Shelbyville is a team to keep an eye on in the coming years as they are a young team with a lot of talent returning next year.

Tenaha

Boys The Tenaha Tigers followed up their biround victory over the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs with a 57-22 win over the Overton Mustangs. This set up a third meeting with district rival Timpson. Timpson ended the Tigers’ season with a final score of 76-51.

Girls Tenaha’s girls have been a dominant force this season, but unfortunately, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs proved to be up to the challenge. Their meeting in the regional semifinals resulted in a 41-32 victory for Martins Mill. The Lady Mustangs went on to defeat LaPoynor and secured a spot at the state tournament as the 2A Region III Champion.

Tenaha has a lot to be proud of this season. They cleared the district with a perfect 12-0 record and pushed their way into the regional tournament. Their overall record for the year was 33-3. They earned the honor of Tenaha Holiday Hoops Champion for the first time in tournament history. The Lady Tigers were also showered with all-district selections.

Coach Bobby Reynolds was named Coach of the Year for District 23-2A. Kayanna Cox earned MVP honors, and Tiyanna Dagley was named Offensive MVP. Kaedynce Cox proved herself this year as a sophomore earning her the title of Newcomer of the Year. McKaelen Reynolds and LaTaejha Steadman were selected for 1st Team All-District. Lilli Horton and Christal Sparks added their names to the 2nd Team All-District list. Finally, A’Jeuanna Moore and Makalie Black were each recognized with an Honorable Mention selection.

Timpson

The Timpson Bears are headed to the regional tournament following their victory over the Tenaha Tigers. Timpson has been on an absolute tear in playoff action this season. Timpson entered the matchup with Tenaha following a pair of 100-point games that showcased their high-powered offensive capabilities. Tenaha proved to be a better match for the Bears, but ultimately fell 76-51.

Timpson will now face LaPoynor in the regional semi-finals. Competition is finally ramping up. The Bears will need to remain focused from this point forward.
