Center

Baseball — The Center Roughriders lost back-to-back games against the Carthage Bulldogs last week. On Tuesday, the Riders were hosted by Carthage in what would end up an 11-0 loss. On Friday, Center took a 14-1 loss at home.

Joaquin

Softball — The Joaquin Lady Rams kicked off playoffs with back-to-back wins in a doubleheader with the Douglass Lady Indians on Thursday, April 27. The two teams met at Woden High School for their neutral site series. In game one, J. Cater pitched four innings, while B. Bagley pitched three. J. King led the Lady Rams with two RBIs. The first game ended in a 9-4 victory for Joaquin. Game two resulted in a more commanding 15-5 win for the Lady Rams. Bagley pitched five innings in this one with five strikeouts. A. Webb led the Lady Rams with three RBIs. Joaquin is now set to face off against the Colmesneil Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, May 6.

Baseball — On Tuesday, April 25, the Joaquin Rams hosted the Martinsville Pirates. The game was called after four and a half innings, as the Rams racked up an impressive 18-2 lead. Joaquin’s massive 12-run inning at the bottom of the third sealed the victory for the Rams. C. Harper and T. Doggett led Joaquin with three RBIs apiece.

Their meeting with Martinsville wrapped up district play, but due to playoff seeding complications, Joaquin faced off against the Shelbyville Dragons to close out the regular season. The Garrison Bulldogs took home the district championship for District 23. Ultimately, Joaquin would fall 9-8 giving Shelbyville the runner-up position.

Shelbyville

Softball — The Shelbyville Lady Dragons entered the playoffs as the three-seed from District 22 2A. Their first-round opponent was the runner-up of District 21, Lovelady. The two teams met at Nacogdoches High School for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27.

Shelbyville earned the win in game one with a final score of 5-2. Lovelady would bounce back in game two with a 6-2 win sending the series to game three. Monday, May 1, the teams reconvened in Nacogdoches and Shelbyville punched their ticket to round two of 2A softball playoffs with a 4-2 victory. Shelbyville will now face Evadale on Saturday, May 6 in a three-game series.

Baseball — On Tuesday, April 25, the Shelbyville Dragons defeated the Timpson Bears 9-0. With a 5-0 advantage after the first inning, the Dragons maintained their lead from early on in this ballgame. Dylan Parker pitched five innings and struck out five. Parker and Cam Mason each tallied two RBIs for the Dragons.

Shelbyville then faced off against the Joaquin Rams to determine who would hold the two-seed heading into playoffs. The two teams battled all the way to the seventh inning where Joaquin tied the game up at 8-8 after the top of the inning. Shelbyville’s Justin Raymond supplied the team with the game-winning RBI and second place in the district.

Timpson

Softball — The Timpson Lady Bears finished district in fourth place earning themselves a playoff berth. Unfortunately, Timpson fell short 5-1 against the Groveton Lady Indians. The Lady Bears’ season ends with a respectable 17-7 overall record.
