Michael Gregory Mayberry

Michael Gregory Mayberry, also known as Poppy, passed away on July 14, 2023, at the age of 65 in Center, Texas. He was born on November 14, 1957, in Houston.

Michael was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held Saturday, July 29th at 3:00 p.m. at the Community Center located at 1600 Sweetgum Trail in Center. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share stories, and pay their respects to a man who epitomized love.

Michael had a remarkable sense of humor that never failed to bring a smile to people's faces. He had a knack for stepping up when it mattered most. As a father, he took on the responsibility of raising his two children on his own.

When he met Joyce, he embraced her daughter Amanda as his own and became the father she needed and trusted.

Michael also took care of his wife when she was diagnosed with cancer, showing unwavering love and support.

Known as the neighborhood’s personal Santa Claus, Michael delighted in being the beloved Christmas figure for grandchildren and local children. His Christmas village was a source of joy for him, growing bigger each year. He could spend hours watching it, finding peace and happiness in its beauty.

Halloween was another favorite time of the year for Michael as he loved dressing up and celebrating the occasion.

He had a passion for music and was a natural entertainer on stage.

He also enjoyed driving along the backroads, often saying, "All roads lead to home."

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Diane Mayberry of Center. He is also survived by his children: daughter Becky Lee Mayberry and Fred Cooper of Joaquin; son Gregory Alan and wife Tiffany Mayberry of Dallas; daughter Amanda Sue Sheets of Center; son Billy Jim Brevard of Celeste; and son Joe Graham Jr. and wife Chelsea Brevard of Gary.

He leaves behind 15 precious grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved cousins.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, George Mayberry; mother, Beverly Pemberton; son, Shawn Mayberry; and grandparents, Cecil Roy and Lois Mildred Baker.

Michael Gregory Mayberry will forever be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, and cherished friend. His infectious laughter, kind heart, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
