Laura Fisher Ross

Laura Fisher Ross of the Silas Community peacefully passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Garrison Nursing Home. Laura was born in Watts, Oklahoma, on October 23, 1922. She was 102 years, 4 months old. She was the fourth of ten children of Earl Leroy and Mary Miller Fisher of Watts, Oklahoma.

She grew up and attended public school in Watts and later married J.W. Ross in 1939. They moved their young family to Houston in 1948 looking for a better life where J.W. soon got a job with Texaco. He transferred to Center in 1965. They moved to Silas and became active members of the community.

Laura served as Worthy Matron at Newburn Lodge in Eastern Star. She enjoyed leading their annual chicken and dressing dinner many years to raise funds for their numerous charitable projects.

Cooking and sewing were two of her many talents.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Fisher; husband, J.W. Ross; granddaughter, Sherri Parker; and sons-in-law, Bob Griffith and John Parker; siblings, Clifford Fisher, and Ruby (infant), and Fern Weeks, and Kate Rebozzi, and Betty Saltenberger, and Gene Fisher, and Dwaine Fisher.

Laura is survived by children, Doris Griffith of Houston, Roberta Parker-Hall and husband, Larry of Pasadena, and Jim Ross and wife, Linda, of Hallsville; sisters. Irene Pittman of Concord, Oklahoma, and Lorraine Setliff of Apopka, Florida; sisters-in-law, Glenda Ross of Watts, Oklahoma, and Jeanne Ross of Westville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Internment was at Mt. Olive Cemetery in the Silas Community, south of Timpson.

In lieu of flowers a contribution in her memory to the Mt. Olive Cemetery Fund, 210 CR 197, Gary, Texas, 75643 would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
