Body

Juanita Warr Shillings, age 96, passed away on October 9, 2023, at her home in Shreveport, La. after a brief, courageous fight with cancer.

Juanita, also known to many as "Nita," was born on August 20, 1927, to Perry and Opal Warr of Center, Texas. She was employed by A and P Tea Company for 29 years and Montgomery Ward Jewelry Co. for 5 and 1/2 years.

She also made numerous arts and crafts through the years including Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, clothes, purses, porcelain painted ceramics and wooden crafts. Festivals and craft shows always held a booth for her. Her late husband, L.V. Shillings, was there by her side to help load and unload her many craft items. Customers looked forward to her canning specialties of jams, jellies and pickles. Another great source of joy for her was volunteering to make her famous homemade coconut cake for luncheons or deliver to others during holidays, illness recovery or loss. Many Alzheimer's patients in the Shreveport area were privileged to receive care from her. She treated them with dignity, respect and considered them friends as she provided exceptional care to them.

She was preceded in death by parents, Perry and Opal Warr; one brother, O'Neal Warr; one sister, Helen Bradshaw; husband, Loyd Shillings; three sons, Jerry, Barry, and Michael Shillings; one son in law, Bill Cooksey; and one grandson, Joe Haley.

She is survived by one son, Larry Shillings and girlfriend, Kellie See and one daughter, Donna Shillings Cooksey. Grandchildren, Shannon Prokopf and husband Edward, Jennifer Crager and husband Heath, Dane Shillings and wife Elizabeth, Crystal Morton and husband Billy; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

After donation of her body to science and medical research (LSU/Ochshner's), a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookwood Baptist Church by Bro. David Rice and Bro. John Harp.

For anyone wishing to make a memorial donation, the family asks to please consider making a donation to Antioch Baptist Church and Cemetery in Shelby County, Texas or to Brookwood Baptist Church. Please contact 318-218-8663 for further details regarding donations.
