Memorial service for Mr. James Sims, 76 of Hughes Springs, Texas, will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Cemetery. Inurnment will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.

Mr. James Wayne "Boomer" Sims, 76, of Hughes Springs, Texas, formerly of Gary, Texas. Mr. Sims was born on August 23, 1946, in Center, Shelby County, Texas. He passed this life on February 9, 2023, in Shreveport, La.

James was one of three children born to the marriage of Jesse and Odell Renfro Sims. He was raised in the Baptist faith and schooled in Center, Texas. James eloped with the woman he loved, Norma Jean "Jeannie" Jeffress, August 2, 1969, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage and three children.

Mr. Sims worked in the oil field as a rig operator in Wyoming, and after returning to Texas, he worked 23 years for Blazer Construction as a truck driver. He was a man who loved the solitude of the outdoors as a big game hunter, loved fishing and camping.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Sims; and a son Terry Sims.

Mr. Sims is survived by his loving wife Jeannie Sims of Hughes Springs; son, Tony Sims and wife Ashley of Riverton, Wyoming; daughter, Lisa DeBord of Hughes Springs; daughter-in-law, Kim Sims of Gillette Wyoming; sister, Jackie Cox and husband Marvin of Weskan, Kansas.

Grandchildren, Brianna Hall and husband Sean, Jordan Molton, Randi DeBord, Bryer Sims, Jada Sims, Jasper Sims, Blake Sims, Brent Sims; great grandchild, Lillian Molton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
