Helen Barbe Sutherland was born August 12, 1932, in Shelby County. She passed away February 19, 2023, in Houston.
She is survived by a daughter, Nicole and husband Rod Wilker of Houston; a son, Paul Sutherland of Florida; sisters Wavha Barbe Davis of Cedar Park, and Eldora and husband Dickie Gilchrist of Center; and a brother, R. E. Barbe of Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul K. Sutherland; an infant daughter Kimberly Paige; parents, Roland and Christine Barbe; a brother, James Gibson Barbe; and an infant sister, Beaulah Barbe.
After graduating from Center High School, Helen moved to Houston and was employed at Gulf Oil. When she became a housewife, she was a competitive tennis player and Maj-Jong competitor. She was also an accomplished watercolor artist.
Helen enjoyed traveling to Europe and other countries, plus numerous trips to Southern California to visit daughter, Nicole. Her focus was to see that her children received higher education and enjoy traveling experiences.
She strived to give her children all the things she did not have as a child.
