Doyce Ann (Morris) Bailey

Doyce Ann (Morris) Bailey, 86, of Tenaha, Texas, passed away February 26, 2023, in Center, Texas. She was born on December 20, 1936, in Center to the late Clifford Doyce Morris and Mavouryne (Grace) Morris.

Graveside service was Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Tennessee Cemetery, 5765 FM 947 in Timpson with Bro. Timothy Roberson officiating.

Born and raised in Shelby County, Doyce Ann attended and graduated from Tenaha High School, Class of 1954. She met the love of her life, Edwin R. Bailey, in April 1957 and the two were married three short months later, June 20, 1957. Their marriage spanned more than 63 years, included 28 years of service the United States Air Force and raising one daughter, LaRaye Ann Bailey.

Doyce Ann served as the City Secretary for Tenaha more than 34 years before retiring in 2015. She also served her community by volunteering her time and resources to the Tennessee Rural Water Board, Tenaha Business Men’s Club and the Child Welfare Board of Shelby County. She was an active and faithful member of Tenaha First Baptist Church where she enjoyed service to her Savior and fellowship.

She is survived by her daughter, LaRaye Ann Bailey; loved as a daughter, Erin Johnson; one sister, Karen Cruse and husband Glenn of St. Louis, Missouri; loved as grandchildren, Justin and Sarah Simons of Tenaha; innumerable friends and loved ones.

Doyce Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin R. Bailey; parents, Clifford Doyce and Mavouryne Morris; brothers, William “Bo” Morris, and Robert “Bo Jack” Morris.

Pallbearers were Johnny Harrington, Tyler Reeves, David Horton, Aaron Roland, Justin Simons, and Taylor Fanguy.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the administration, nurses, aids, therapist and support staff of Pine Grove Nursing Home. Their excellent care, love and support was invaluable and will not be forgotten.
