Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at Mangum Funeral Home with Brother Rob Merriman officiating. Interment was at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.

Weldon was in the propane business for more than 60 years. He started his career driving a propane truck for Mac Bussey who owned Bu-Pane.

Mr. Bussey and his wife Mattie Lou played an instrumental part in Weldon’s life. Just out of high school, Weldon went to work for Johnny Johnson’s service station just off the Center square. The Bussey’s were customers and Mattie Lou told Mac that there was a nice young man working there and he better hire him. That was the beginning of his propane career.

After a few years of serving East Texas as a propane driver, Weldon became a manager, and soon after, Petrolane purchased Bu-Pane. After the company was sold, he and his family were transferred to Houston with Petrolane to work in their wholesale division.

In 1975 he purchased Farmers LP Gas from James Campbell. Over the next 40 years, Weldon had a passion for buying and selling retail and wholesale propane companies. In addition to his time in the propane business, he was a board member and stockholder for many years at Shelby Savings Bank.

Weldon took pride in helping many people in his community and church over the years. Weldon was a member of the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge, Texas Propane Gas Association, National Propane Gas Association, Shelbyville Lions Club, and the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville.
