June 21, 1944 January 18, 2024
On Thursday, January 18th, 2024, we bid a heartfelt farewell to a cherished wife, beloved mother, and adored grandmother, Ona Delores Pritchet, lovingly known as Dorothy. Born on the Summer Solstice of June 21, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Rheinhardt Herman Engelke and Ona Mary Leona Burnette, Dorothy brought warmth and joy to the lives she touched.
Dorothy found her lifelong love in Homer Lewis Pritchet, and on May 24, 1973, they embarked on a journey of 50 years together. The James Community of Center, Texas, became the canvas of their shared memories and the haven they called home.
Preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Kara Miller, Dorothy’s legacy lives on through the love she showered on her family. She is survived by her devoted husband and soul mate, Homer, and their four children: Felton Gilmore and his wife MaryAnn, Cathy Dickerson and her husband Bob, Charlotte Halvorson and her husband Scott, and Sheri Miller and her husband Matthew.
Dorothy and Homer’s love multiplied in the form of 15 grandchildren: Mylinda White, Mylissa Capp, Jonathan Gilmore, Jeremy Gilmore, Justyn Gilmore, LaniNicole Russell, Jennifer Richards, Rey Soto, Lindsey Crandall, Brandon Halvorson, Derek Miller, Joshua Miller, Jared Miller, Kara Miller, Matthew Miller, and Garrett Hoover. Additionally, they shared in the joy and love of 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation to honor Dorothy’s memory will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. The funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m., with Brother Johnny Lewis of the Antioch Baptist Church officiating.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Dorothy not with tears for her departure but with smiles for the moments we shared. May her gentle spirit and enduring love remain eternally in our hearts.
