July 28, 2023— The Hogpen Fire in the Indian Mounds Wilderness area of Sabine National Forest near Hemphill continues to burn. The fire was started by lightning and discovered Monday, July 24, 2023, by a U.S. Forest Service (USFS)fire patrol who spotted the smoke plume, according to a news release from the USFS.
