Multi-purpose event center construction is underway
Center ISD groundbreaking ceremonies marked the beginning of the new multi-purpose event center on the high school campus Friday, April 14. The facility was part of a 2022 CISD bond election approved by voters in May of 2022.
“I just want to thank everybody for showing up and showing their support,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Morris. “We’re excited about what’s going on here. Of course, they (construction crews) have been moving dirt longer than we have, but finally glad to get a groundbreaking (completed).”
Ceremonies originally scheduled for last week were postponed due to inclement weather.
“We’ve got a great working relationship with our architects McKinley Golden and with WRL,” Morris said. “We’ve been very impressed with the work they’ve done so far and we’re just excited to see this building come up and our kids be able to use it.”
Noting the project had been underway for some time, Morris added, “We’re pleased and we’re very excited.”
Construction of the multi-purpose event center is part of a two-proposition $12 million bond issue approved by voters in May of 2022 for expansion and improvement to alleviate crowding caused by expanding student population.
Proposition A provided for the issuance of $8 million in bonds to construct a multipurpose gymnasium/ auditorium and an ag barn that will house all girls athletic programs, be a practice and performance facility for girls and boys sports, create a venue for district-wide student convocations, and serve as a shelter and show ring for all ag-related programs.
Proposition B provided for the issuance of $4 million in bonds to build a multipurpose covered athletic practice facility that will be an all-weather practice facility for multiple girls/boys sports, and serve as an all-weather practice facility for band and cheer activities.
