Patricia Ann "Pat" Childs

Patricia Ann “Pat” Childs passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at her residence in Houston. She was 89 years of age. She was born on the 24th of June 1933, in Center, Texas, to Auvy and Birdie (Weaver) Childs. After graduating from Center High School, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with a B.S. degree.

The recipient of a grant from the Polio Foundation, she received additional training in Houston under Dr. O.O. Seeke at Hermann Hospital. As a physical therapist specializing in working with polio patients, she was employed at Methodist St. Luke's, and Texas Children's hospitals for eleven years. She then worked in five nursing homes.

For several years, she was a physical therapist for the City of Houston Health Department. Before her retirement, she worked for several years as a physical therapist at the state prison in Richmond, Texas.

She was a charter member of the National World War II Museum and a long-time member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Physical Therapy Association, and several wildlife and conservation organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Marleta Childs and brother-in-law, Ron Monroe of Lubbock; long-time friend, Barbara Hurn; and several cousins.

Her wish was to be cremated and a private memorial service is to be conducted at a later date.
