Recently, several members of the Center Garden Club gathered to decorate the urns on the downtown square for fall. Community beautification is a major goal of the Center Garden Club. The club wishes to thank the City of Center for its support with this project. A temporary diversion of an oilfield byproduct destined for disposal is projected to add as much as $40 million in economic impact to Shelby County through the recovery of lithium from the substance.

Court approves clock repairs, auction items

Entering into an agreement for the repair of the clock on the historic courtyard square, accepting a notice of vacating of county- leased property from Tri-County and advertising items for auction were the main items discussed at the commissioners’ court special meeting held on Wed., Oct. 22.

1990 FESTIVAL QUEEN’S CONTEST – These ten beautiful young ladies from Shelby County competed in the 1990 Poultry Festival Queen’s Contest held Saturday night at Center High School Auditorium. Winner of the contest was Miss d’Arcey Taylor of Timpson.

Library fall book sale begins Oct. 28

The Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library will hold its fall book sale in the Redditt Room during regular library hours from Wednesday, Oct. 28, to Saturday, Nov. 1. The Friends of the Library hold the book sale twice a year.
