On Saturday October 14, the Shelbyville Dragon Band competed in the UIL Region Marching Contest. This contest is a culminating event for which we prepare throughout the summer and fall. Our annual participation and results in this contest are a benchmark for the band and our success marks a significant milestone achievement for which we are extremely proud.

The rating system for bands at the UIL Marching Contest range from Divisions 1 - 5.  A panel of three judges rates each band with a Division 1 (superior), Division 2 (excellent), Division 3 (good), Division 4 (fair), or Division 5 (poor). The Shelbyville Dragon received “Straight Ones," indicating that all three judges awarded the band with a Division 1 Superior rating. These scores from all three judges represent the highest possible result at the UIL Marching Content.

On Saturday, nine 2A military marching style bands competed.  Only three of the participating bands, including Shelbyville, received "Straight Ones."

The Dragon Band's superior rating qualifies the band to proceed to the UIL State Military Marching Contest to be held on October 25. The contest will be held at McLane Stadium on Baylor University campus in Waco.  At this contest, bands are ranked in order with a traditional ranking system (1st place through last place) rather than the rating system mentioned above.

In 2022, the Dragon Band advanced to finals at the UIL State Military Marching contest where they were ranked in the top five military marching bands in the state of Texas, receiving 5th place.  They look forward to the opportunity to continue this tradition next week.
