Dennis Phillips Light and Champion The Jail Times debuts next week. The Jail Times is a publication a long time in planning. Many people have published a version in several Texas cities. Most just have mugshots and names, a few ads, and little to no substance.

I’m not too fond of those publications.

Don’t let the name fool you. Along with the monthly mugshots and jail log information, The Jail Times will feature stories about local law enforcement, Texas DPS updates, indictments, game wardens, school police department news, and much more.

What we will accomplish with this new monthly publication is a complete look at community law enforcement agencies.

Our local law enforcement agencies deserve recognition and a respectful publication.

After many years of thought and planning, Shelby County residents will be the first to realize that inside this publication is a complete “back the blue” type publication, not just mugshots.

When word of The Jail Times got out, comments were many and varied. “That’s just plain trash,” said one user on social media. “OMG, it is about time Shelby County did this,” remarked another.

Whatever your thoughts, I assure you that The Jail Times, published and available on May 1, 2024, from The Light and Champion, will astonish you.

We have the full support of all law enforcement agencies in Shelby County. The Jail Times is a complete publication supporting local law enforcement as they strive to serve our community, placing themselves at risk every day to keep us safe.

Thank you to the advertisers who are already onboard to support the project. If you want to be a part of the first issue, call Veronica at 936-598-3377. But hurry, we are printing issue number one this Friday. We plan a large press run, making the publication available at more than 40 local retailers. And we plan to sell out.
