This week marks the first issue of the Light and Champion “Daily Update” newsletter that was launched Wednesday of this week.

“Shelby County has a lot of news, events, and information to cover,” said Light and Champion publisher Leon Aldridge. “So much that even with our website and social media accounts, we never seem to get the information out fast enough.”

The Light and Champion maintains an extensive email list of readers. The process began over a year ago with the annual Best of the Best Shelby County Readers’ Choice Awards with newspaper readers signing up to vote. The list also includes newspaper readers participating in other online promotions, plus the print and online newspaper subscribers.

The email newsletter stands to serve as a reminder that the Light and Champion is the leading source of factual news in Shelby County with one of the most significant social media presences and a robust website visited thousands of times a week.

It is also the oldest business in Shelby County on record, established in 1877.

u With the addition of the newsletter, the Light and Champion now offers even more information electronically delivered directly to readers who request the information. The newspaper also provides that advantage to its advertisers, giving them an edge over their competition while promoting Shelby County and enhancing the “Shop Local” message that is essential to the community.

The newsletter is not spam or junk mail, but news and advertising sent solely at the readers request.

“We are really excited at the Light and Champion,” said Aldridge. “This project started to take shape more than a year ago, and on Wednesday, we saw the launch. We are now looking forward to growing the daily newsletter and making it a vital part of the community.”
