SFA based program conducted at Windham Civic Center

An educational forum designed to provide resources and ideas useful to local economic development was conducted at the Windham Civic Center Tuesday, July 11.

Guest speakers included Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev with the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) Department of Economics and Finance and Rusche College of Business; Nancy Windham, Director of Texas Forest Country Partnership; and Kelly Hall with the Longview Chamber of Commerce.

The event was a part of the SFA Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation program. Discussions centered on local needs for economic development with a focus on bringing faculty and students together with business, industry, education and community partners in dynamic, interactive environments. Through interactions, students learn how to use skills to work in teams with other students from multiple disciplines to solve complex real-world problems for rural and smaller communities.

The SFA Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation has traveled to all 11 Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) counties providing the discussion-based presentations.
