You may have seen someone knocking on your door this week. Her name is Linda “Book Girl” Čever. Linda has traveled from her home country of Latvia, to Shelby County, to sell educational books through her summer exchange program, Southwestern Advantage. Linda’s program focuses on selling educational books to children and families that help give kids an “educational jump-start for school.”

Southwestern Family of Companies was established in 1855 and the sales and leadership program, now known as Southwestern Advantage, was founded in 1868. It is the oldest entrepreneurial and direct selling program for college and university students in the world.

“This is my summer job,” said Linda. “Back at home, I study communications. I just finished my bachelors and will be going back to earn my masters. This summer program helps me pay for my college,” she said.

Linda says that she has been doing her exchange program for the last five summers, where she spent two summers in the United Kingdom and three in the United States going door-to-door to educate families on the benefits of outside-curriculum education books. So far in the United States, Linda has been to Missouri, Kentucky and now Texas. “The United States is the best part,” said Linda.

“I am selling educational books for families, from toddlers all the way to college prep,” said Linda. “I am going door-to-door, meeting families, so I get to be a part of the community while I’m here for a couple of weeks,” she said.

Southwestern Advantage offers a variety of educational books, including question and answers, study guides and even experiments. You can also purchase family Bibles and religious study books from Linda.

“I am here for two weeks. Today is my first day in Center, and so far - so good,” she said.
