Richard Lundie is the new Deputy County Democratic Chairperson and has issed the following statement. First let me state that it is a pleasure to be selected for this demanding job,” said Lundie. “I was born the second of six siblings, and educated in Houston. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from The University of Arizona Global Campus.
I am a retired Army Veteran. I entered to service in 1975 completing three years before leaving the service to be a truck driver. After being out for a while I reentered the service in 1987 and retired in 2008, making Timpson my new home.
While in the service, I went from a Cannon Crewman to Battalion Master Gunner. After retirement I drove salt water trucks. I was selected to work as an ROTC Instructor with the Caddo Parish Schools in Shreveport, La.
I later decided to be a substitute teacher for Timpson ISD.
Presently I just sit back and enjoy each day that I am blessed with.
I registered to vote in 1978 and voted in person when I could. I voted absentee after I went back in the Army. Poor excuse, but I picked up my voter card each time I came home on leave. As you can read, I was just like most of you, a regular guy.
I am a two-time Life Member of the NAACP in North Carolina and here in Texas. Commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Center, Disabled American Veteran, American Legion, Member of LOIN International, A Prince Hall Mason, a member of the American Civil Liberty Union and the Sheriff ’s Association of Texas.
What can I do for Shelby County?
NOTHING without your help. I can only do something if we can wake the people up in Shelby County and get them motivated into doing something to help our fellow Democrats to be alive again. Time to Wake up a Sleeping Giant.
Most of us just go to the refrigerator, get something to eat or drink, then go to the sofa and think that everything is going to be alright. How is that working for you?
The view is not so well when I see that we can do much more as a team. It will require us to do more than complaint about what is not right about those who get elected to office.
First question that I will ask is “Did you Vote?” I do not care if you voted Democratic or Republican, that is your choice. But did you vote? Your vote is your voice and when you go and vote in numbers, that is the loudest noise you can ever make. A sleeping giant is what we have in Shelby County. Many of my fellow voters sat at home with ideals that could better our local, state and federal policies, but your voice is not heard because you choose to stay home and blame others on why the system is not working for you. We will start having meetings as soon as I get a date that will be suitable for all if possible. To have meetings, we must be organized with a secretary, treasurer, and members to form committees. Yes, that means work. The more we have to volunteer, the less work each of us will have to do. The public is invited also, but when you come with complaints, be sure to come with solutions. It does no one any good to just complain and have no ideal on how to fix it. When asking questions remember this, the only dumb question is the one that is never asked. Your ideas are important to improve a better understanding on what we need to do to be better in our work. I hope to see you at our meetings.
