To Submit Calendar Items The Community Calendar is a brief, free listing to inform readers of programs and special meetings that are nonprofit or community service events. Events should be open to the public and free to attend. For maximum exposure, information should be submitted two weeks prior to the event. • Happy Tails Howl-O-Ween 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. FUN-raiser. Family oriented, dog-focused Spook-Tacular at the covered basketball pavilion at Portacool Park in Center. Free and open to the public with contests for dogs and activities for youngsters. Pre-registration for a $25 donation will include a Hall-O-Ween t-shirt and a doggie bandana. • Junior class 2025 fundraiser A bake sale fundraiser for the class of 2025 organized by the class of 2025 student’s moms is planned for from 10:30 to 2:00 p.m. on the Toledo Automotive NAPA parking lot in Center.

OCT 15 Sunday

• Special Study Event At Clever Creek Baptist Church, 199 CR 1042 at FM 417 West, Center. Begins Sunday, Oct. 15 and continues through Tuesday, Oct. 1517 with Evangelist Michael Durham from Denton. Sunday at 10:55 a.m. worship and 7 p.m. at Sunday evening service.

• Democratic Monthly Meeting At Las Margaritas restaurant on the square in Center at 5:30 p.m. to eat if you like, pot lock. Meeting will start at 6 p.m.

OCT 20 Friday

• Health and Fitness Fair The Health and Fitness Fair is set for 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the John D. Windham Civic Center in Center. The UT Health and Trinity Mother Frances Ross Breast Center Mobile Digital Mammography Units will be a part of the event.

OCT 24-28 Tuesday – Saturday

• “Friends of the Library” Book Sale Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library “Friends of the Library” Fall Book Sale is planned for Tuesday through Saturday, Oct. 24-28. during regular operating hours, Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proceeds from the book sale go toward purchasing new books. Book donations being accepted.

OCT 28 Saturday

• James Antioch Meal At the James - Antioch Community Building on FM 2608 just off Highway 7 E from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Includes chicken and dumplings with cornbread, chili with rice and crackers, cookies and an ice-cold drink for $8.00 per meal. Have lunch or supper and help keep the Community Center open for events and as a place for quilters to quilt and sew. More information, contact Ellen Manning at 598 3081.

• Huxley VFD Fall Festival The Huxley Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fall Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. Lots of food, raffles, games, and fun are planned. Food at 4 p.m. and fun at 6 p.m. 40-plus guns and a 20-gun raffle, plus specialty packages. The Huxley VFD is located at 11862 FM 2694 in Shelbyville.

‘Halloween in the Hole’ set to haunt Oct. 31 OCT 31 Tuesday

• Halloween in the Hole 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Center High School baseball field. Kids in costume and 13 and under. Table reservations required to pass out treats. • Wallace Chapel Church anniversary at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Superintendent Marvin Jackson I of Clayton Temple Church of God in Christ at Timpson. Church is located at 108 South Marcus Street in Timpson.

• Clever Creek Baptist Church Guest Evangelist Lee E. Thomas from Westlake, La., for a special study event on his book “Praying Effectively for the Lost.” Study is from 10 a.m. to lunchtime and continuing after lunch until finished. Books and other materials will be available. Free lunch for all who attend.

The church is located at 199 CR 1042 at FM 417 West.

NOV 12 Sunday

• Clever Creek Baptist Church Guest Evangelist Lee E. Thomas from Westlake, La., for a special study event on book “Living the Exceedingly Victorious Life.” Study is from 10 a.m. to lunchtime and continuing after lunch until finished. Books and other materials will be available. Free lunch for all who attend. Clever Creek Baptist Church is located at 199 CR 1042 at FM 417 West.
