The Shelby County Commissioners Court discussed and approved agenda items on Wednesday, July 26, but not before entering two executive sessions.

Following the executive sessions, commissioners accepted settlement offers from Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart in the matter of Texas Opioid multi-district litigation.

The settlements are part of CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart agreeing last year to pay a combined $10 billion to settle lawsuits brought by states and local governments alleging the retailers mishandled prescriptions of opioid painkillers.

The agreement calls for the money to go to states involved in the lawsuit. The agreement wouldn’t be finalized until enough states, counties and cities agree to the terms.

The court approved a three-year lease with KnowInk for iPads for the Election Administration office. Local elections will take place in Nov. when the office of Shelby County sheriff, among other positions, is up for reelection.

The court approved a 180-day trial agreement for commissary services between Shelby County and CTC Commissary, LLC. The service will provide sheriff ’s office inmates with cards, stored in the sheriff ’s lobby, that can be used to purchase products from a store within Shelby County jail.

The court also discussed and approved allowing the sheriff ’s office to allocate open positions to the jail. Officers assigned to the new positions will work as jailers and assist in correcting non-compliance issues in the county.

The court discussed and approved bids on new vehicles through BuyBoard for Constables in the first, second and third precincts. Also approved were auctions on the Purple Wave online auction site for a precinct three Volvo 950 motor grader in addition to a Sierra travel trailer, a 2008 Crown Victoria and a 2008 Jeep Laredo from the sheriff ’s office.

The court voided an auction contract for a precinct one maintainer which was approved on July 12 and approved a Cap Fleet Buyboard quote for a vehicle purchased for the precinct four constable.

The court also accepted the bid to withdraw from Donnie Fountain Construction for a precinct three Road and Bridge Barn and awarded the bid to Cornerstone Manufacturing and Construction.

In other business, commissioners approved Fund disbursements for the Family Protection Fee, and approved the weekly expenses and current payroll.

The Shelby County Commissioners Court meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Shelby County Courthouse.
