The 2023 Grill Fest sanctioned barbecue cook-off, presented by Farmers State Bank, is set for Friday, March 31 Saturday, April 1 at the Shelby County Expo Center/Rodeo Arena.
The public is invited to attend and sample tastings of barbecue at cook team stations as well as enjoy the fun activities. Entry is free.
Gold Sponsors include Pilgrim’s Pride and Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. Silver sponsors are 4C Electrical Services, Ace Hardware of East Texas, Baldwin Tree Service, Bob’s Pawn and Shop, Cobb-Vantress-Timberlake Farm, R&D Distributing and Timberwolf Lake Works.
According to the Grill Fest Committee, more than $6,500 in prize money will be awarded to the registered cook teams. Registration is open until the day of the event. The fee now through March 17 is $150 per team. After March 17, the fee is $200.
The annual barbecue cook-off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society.
Prize money for the top 50-percent of the cook teams will be awarded in three categories. Pork Spare Ribs, Chicken and Brisket. Trophies will be awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. Awards are sponsored by the City of Center. C&J AC and Heating is the Judge Sponsor.
An adult beverage competition and a bean competition will be included. Entry fee for each one of these events is $10. Winner takes the pot.
In addition to the Chillin’ and Grillin,’ a Washer Pitching Tournament and 42 Tournament will be open to competitors. Both events are sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank, and Entertainment will be Sponsored by Rapid Pay Day. Steve Adams Karaoke will provide music.
