Center ISD closes Monday and Tuesday for disinfecting

Caution taken after ISD employee diagnosed with spinal meningitis

Center ISD resumed normal schedules Wednesday, Feb. 8 following a two-day closure for disinfection purposes after a school district employee was diagnosed with spinal meningitis during the weekend.

A press release issued to the media Sunday, Feb 5 at 8:33 p.m. by H.

Brian Morris, Ed.D., Superintendent of Center ISD stated, “Center ISD has just been notified of an employee who was diagnosed with spinal meningitis over the weekend. Out of an abundance of caution, Center ISD is closing all campuses tomorrow, Monday, February 6, 2023, for disinfection purposes.”

A second released Monday by Dr. Morris updating the closure reported, “Center ISD has begun disinfecting all buildings and buses. This is an extensive process and will take two days. Once the process has begun, no adults or students will be allowed inside any building or bus until it is safe to re-enter. Center ISD will make an announcement regarding when it is safe to re-enter. Center ISD is cancelling classes for tomorrow, February 7, 2023, also. All indoor practices are cancelled until further notice. It is imperative that everyone stay out of the buildings until we make an announcement that it is safe to re-enter.

A later press release Monday stated, “The chaparral tryout clinic for tomorrow, 2/6, has been cancelled, but there is still a mandatory parent meeting on Tuesday, 2/7, in the CHS library at 5 p.m.” That was updated late Monday with, “Following district closure, the mandatory parent meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 2/7, has been postponed until further notice.”

The ISD’s last press release issued Tuesday at 10:55 a.m. stated, “Center ISD will resume its normal schedule on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.”

As of press time Wednesday, no other information had been released.
