The Fraud Team at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) asked us to share these resources with our county residents. They developed an online toolkit to help protect residents from scam artists after a storm or other natural disaster.
It’s important to get information to residents with storm damage quickly, as they’ll want to start making repairs and rebuilding as soon as possible. Good information helps consumers make good decisions.
This toolkit lists suggested actions local officials can take to deter scams—such as requiring permitting for out-oftown solicitors, and proof of insurance for contractors.
The toolkit also has printable flyers you can use in English and Spanish, sample social media posts, and links to additional resources.
