One end of the Austin Street work taking place this month was completed and opened to traffic. Motorists turning onto Austin Street from Nacogdoches Street saw the road closed sign ahead, but not the outlet provided by the alleyway at the middle of the block.
On the other end of Austin Street, the road is closed for repairs and work is underway. The entrance/exit across from the county offices that was open during the first phase is closed for this portion of the work which is expected to take two weeks.
The street light at the corner of San Augustine Street and Shelbyville has been replaced after being knocked down and destroyed by a tractor trailer truck trying to make a turn. Despite city ordinances, big rig trucks are still seen driving through the downtown square.
