Shelby County Commissioners agenda items Wednesday, August 9 included contract renewals, tax rates and job approval.

Tax Assessor-Collector Debora Riley submitted the 2023 calculated tax rates and the continuing education transcript per Texas Property Tax Code 6.231. These items were discussed but no action was required.

Riley also presented the court with the removal or imposition of local optional fees, for the calendar year 2023 as part of the Transportation Code, chapter 502.

This fee is collected by the motor vehicles side of the tax collector’s office. As required by the legislature, the court is required to inform the Texas Department of Motor Safety whether they wish to continue or remove the option fees.

The Road and Bridge fees and the Child Safety fees are $10 and $1.50, respectively, and cannot exceed that amount. The court voted to keep the fee as is and take no further action.

The commissioners approved the appointment of Kerri Shofner as Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator.

Following discussion on shelving from JP one’s office that is stored at the sheriff ’s office, commissioners approved dividing the shelving between other offices.

The court approved their yearly contract renewal with Computer Information Concepts for the tax office.

The expense was already added to the budget and has been beneficial to the tax office.

Also discussed and approved was a vehicle exchange between constables four and five.

While the burn ban was not on the agenda for the August 9 meeting, the court did not negate the matter, so the burn ban is still in effect.

The commissioners will vote at their next meeting whether to continue or discontinue the burn ban.

Commissioners discussed and approved weekly expenses and current payroll.

The Shelby County Commissioners Court meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m.
