For Timpson Bears it's 3 wins in a row

Bears have taken commanding victories over Frankston, Alto, and now Mount Enterprise

The Timpson Bears are on a 3-0 roll to kick off this football season.

They have taken commanding victories over Frankston, Alto, and now Mount Enterprise. Mount Enterprise was completely outclassed offensively and defensively taking a 60-0 loss in John Herbert Eakin Stadium.

Following the coin toss it was decided that the Wildcats would receive the opening kickoff. Timpson’s defense was stifling from the very beginning preventing Mount Enterprise from getting anything going offensively. After an attempted and failed fourth down conversion, the Bears took over on downs.

Unfortunately, the Bears lost possession quickly thereafter on a pass that was deemed backwards by the referee and therefore a fumble. Mount Enterprise jumped on the loose ball and regained possession. The Bears’ defense locked down the Wildcats once again and forced a punt.

Running back Braden Courtney scored first for the Bears by rushing 67 yards to pay dirt. That would not be Courtney’s only trip to the endzone, as he broke off another big run in the third quarter for 57 yards.

Terry Bussey made plays all over the field. His first highlight was a go-up-and-get-it interception in the second quarter. He followed that up with a rushing touchdown to cap off the drive that he created. Bussey spent the rest of the game doling out touchdown passes.

His first touchdown pass went to the corner of the end zone where Semaj Kelley created space with his route running to add six to the Bears’ total. The next Bussey touchdown was thrown to Trey Davis to round out the scoring at 27-0 heading into halftime.

Nick Bennett secured a six-yard touchdown pass to begin the Bears’ second half. Shahed Cross reeled in a 39-yard dart from Bussey for another six points after creating separation with his speed.

“Bussey and of course Braden Courtney had a big night,” said Head Football Coach Kerry Therwhanger, “but you have to give credit where it’s due, when those guys have big nights the guys up front are doing their job. Those five guys up front, Adrian Caraway, our center Xander Stephens, left guard Jacorian Grace, our right guard Ernan Venagas, and our right tackle Briar Sample. Those guys, obviously anytime we can put up numbers like that, it’s the guys up front that are getting the job done.”

Heading into the fourth quarter, Therwhanger was able to give his backups some valuable time on the field. LT Washington took advantage of his time at quarterback by finding Semaj Kelley for his second receiving touchdown. Washington also rushed for a touchdown a few plays before he led the Bears in the victory formation for the win.

“We’ve got a lot of young kids in some key positions, and the more experience that they get the better off we’re going to be. This was a good learning experience for them tonight,” said Therwhanger.

This Friday the Bears are scheduled to be on the road to take on Price Carlisle.
