The Tenaha Tigers emerged victorious by a score of 42-30 against the Tigers from Bremond Friday night at Mabank in the UIL Class 2A Division II area playoff game. In a contest that could have gone either way until the final minutes, Tenaha scored last then dug in on defense virtually shutting down Bremond’s offense in the final moments.

“That was a 50-50 game, said Tenaha Head Coach and Athletic Director, Jeremy Jenkins.

“And we just felt to the end that any team could have won it. Both teams were so evenly matched and played their hearts out,” he said. “Tenaha is back, that’s all I can say, Tenaha is back after a year down. I’m really proud of the kids.”

Tenaha put the first points on the board at the 3:05 mark in the first quarter with a Markee Rasberry run. The point after kick by Manuel Loredo  was good and they led 7-0.

Bremond scored their first points with seven seconds left in the first quarter but missed on the conversion attempt, and the quarter ended with Tenaha leading by one.

With 8:03 showing on the second quarter clock, Tenaha added another seven points with a Rasberry run and Loredo PAT.

Bremond answered that score three minutes and nine seconds later, this time putting the ball in the end zone for two points after the touchdown and tying the score at 14-all with 4:54 showing on the second-quarter clock and remained tied as the half ended.

The Tigers from Tenaha came out charging in the third quarter taking the kickoff and just two plays to hit the endzone again.

With only 46 seconds gone off the clock, another Rasberry TD and Loredo point-after made the score Tenaha 21 and Bremond 14 with11:21 remaining in the third quarter.

Six minutes and seven seconds later, Tenaha’s Jeremy Patton and a Loredo PAT added another seven points making the score Tenaha 28 and Bremond 14 with 5:28 left in the third quarter.

Bremond showed no signs of giving up however as they added a touchdown and two-point conversion to narrow the gap to six points.

Tenaha recovered a Bremond fumble early in the fourth quarter and cashed it in for seven points on a running play by Patton bringing the total with a Loredo PAT to 35 against Bremond’s 22 with 11:18 left the final stanza.

Still on the hunt with 4:13 left, Bremond added eight points on a passing play and added two points after with a pass to make it 35-30 keeping them within striking distance of a win.

But with 2:45 left on the clock, a Patton TD and a Loredo PAT added a 42-30 margin of comfort to the score. Those points would turn out to be the last score of the night and Manuel Loredo’s last PAT kick of the night gave the Tenaha kicker a 100-percent PAT conversion rate for the game.

Tenaha’s ensuing kickoff went deep into Bremond territory and the defense loomed like brick wall shutting down Bremond’s offensive efforts. Tenaha took over on downs with just over a minute left and let the clock run out to take the win at 42-30.

Tenaha will face the Chilton Pirates for the 2A Division II regional title Saturday, November 28 at 6:00 p.m. at Athens’ Bruce Field. The Tigers will be the home team.

Chilton defeated Deweyville 56-12 in area play. They are 8-4 overall and 2-2 in district play scoring 376 points while allowing 273.
