Logansport routs Class 2A Lakeview, 42-0

Logansport Tigers show their Class 1A State Championship prowess with a 42-0 win over Class 2A the Lakeview Gators on Friday night. The Gators looked to rebound from a week one loss although the Tigers simply had different plans.

The Tigers knew they had multiple shoes to fill on the offensive side of the ball due to 4 contributing Seniors graduating last year.  Coach Kevin Magee did not have to look too deep into his roster to begin to fill those shoes.  The trio of Juniors, Madrid Johnson, Tresmin Brown and Austin Edgar, had a combined 4 touchdowns for the game.

From the first play, Senior Quarterback, Dalton Shaw, led the Tigers 63 yards to the endzone via a touchdown reception by Madrid Johnson.  It did not take Tiger defense long to show their strength.  They stopped the Gator offense on the next 3 downs causing them to punt the ball.  Shaw quickly led the team to the end zone in a 3 play drive.  Austin Edgar the 13 yard pass in for the touchdown.

After another forced punt, the Tigers marched down the field adding another touchdown to their total when Tresmin Brown rushed for a 2-yard touchdown.  After the fourth punt of the night for the Gators, John Stephens received an 18-yard pass from Shaw for another Tiger touchdown.   Finishing out the 5th drive of the night for the starting Varsity, Dalton Shaw connected with Stephens again for a 3-yard touchdown.

Coach Kevin Magee decided to show good sportsmanship by taking starters off the field one by one once the 3rd quarter was half-way complete.

Leading to the first punt of the night for the Logansport Tigers the defense still stood their ground forcing a fumble.  The 2nd string offense was able to push down to the 26-yard line with no hesitation.  Coach Magee called on all-district kicker, Austin Edgar, to complete a 37 yard field goal.   It the second longest field made in Logansport history.  This finalized the score at 42-0.

After the game, quarterback Dalton Shaw, said, “We know they are going to double-team our big number 9, Stephens.  It is extremely nice to have four to seven other receivers that I can look to.”  2016 Class 1A Coach Kevin Magee stated, “Each week we get better on both sides of the ball.  Each week we have someone step up and make plays.”

Shaw ended the night with 11/16 pass completions for 269 yards and 4 TDs.  Logansport defense was led by Junior, John Amox with 8 tackles followed by Matthew Woods, Austin Edgar and Dayton with 6 tackles each.  Lacadrian Turner also added 3 tackles for loss.

Though both teams played hard, in the end the Tiger’s strength proved too much for the Lakeview Gators to overcome.

Next week Logansport will step up even higher and take on the class 3A Bossier Bearkats.
