Dragons overcome early Timpson lead in Tuesday night contest, 55-47
No one could have predicted the first half of Tuesday night’s matchup between the Shelbyville Dragons and the Timpson Bears.
Shelbyville has been a force this year earning recognition as the No. 1 ranked 2A boys’ basketball team within the state of Texas. Timpson, on the other hand, has had a relatively quiet year.
If you had told me, the Timpson Bears would lead the Dragons at halftime, I would have scoffed, but that is exactly what happened. Shelbyville was able to tighten things up in the second half, but the Bears made a statement with that first half of play.
It should come as no surprise that the Bears shoot well at home. Timpson’s Braden Courtney shot especially well during the opening quarter. The Bears took an early lead, but the Dragons were able to get on the board when Jordan Boykins dished an assist to Jay Buckley for three points. The quarter would end with Timpson ahead 12-7 to the dismay of the onlooking Shelbyville fans.
Timpson was able to maintain their lead through the second quarter. They continued to shoot well in their home gym. Camden Foster of Timpson went two for two from the free throw line and ended the first half with three buckets from beyond the three-point line.
