Shelbyville Dragons down Alto; take on Cushing Thursday and Friday
Shelbyville has been able to string together an impressive number of wins over the past couple months leading to an undefeated district baseball championship.
Last Friday, the Dragons added two more victories to the win column. The Alto Yellowjackets met the Dragons at Rusk High School to face off in the area round of Texas 2A Baseball Playoffs.
With rain in the forecast, the teams were luckily able to find a break in the poor weather and complete their doubleheader. Shelbyville defeated Also 2-1 in both Area games.
The Dragons were designated the visiting team for game one of the best-of-three series, meaning they were set to bat first. Shelbyville was able to load the bases early in their lineup. This proved advantageous as Zach Clark, the very next batter, was walked sending Trevor Wilburn home for the automatic score. Unfortunately, outs two and three came right after the Dragons posted their first point.
Junior Kolby Parker has been an asset to the Dragons this season on the mound, and Friday was no exception. Parker handled pitching duties for the entirety of the first game. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings and walked only two.
Shelbyville is now scheduled to take on the Cushing Bearkats back in Rusk on Thursday, May 16, for the first game of another three-game series. That game is set to begin at 6 p.m. Game two will follow on Friday at 5 p.m. and game three, if necessary, will be held 30 minutes after game two.
