Joaquin Rams lone Shelby County survivor in playoff action
The Joaquin Rams are the only Shelby County high school football team advancing to Round 2 of playoff action after beating Shelbyville, 39-0, last Friday in Henderson.
In the Area round the Rams will take on the Alto Yellowjackets, the District 10-2A Champions, at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Lufkin at Abe Martin Stadium. Joaquin was the runner-up team in District 11-2A.
Alto defeated Cayuga, 62-0, this past Friday.
The winner of Friday's game will move on to Round 3 of the playoffs the following week to take on the winner of this week's Big Sandy vs. Groveton game. Groveton was the runner-up team in District 12-2A while Big Sandy was the fourth place seed in District 10-2A.
With Friday's win over Shelbyville, the Rams have a 9-2 season record.
Besides Shelbyville, which Joaquin beat in the first round of playoffs last week, Center lost to Hamshire-Fannett, 50-42, in a game played in Woodville; while Timpson fell to Groveton, 47-12.
The No. 4 state rated San Augustine Wolves will be playing a 6-5 Normangee in Area playoff action this Friday at 7 p.m. At Crockett High School. San Augustine remained undefeated after last week's 42-10 victory over Garrison.
